Item #4222

Weymann Orchestra Model Style 2 Model Tenor Banjo (1928), made in Philadelphia, PA, natural varnish finish, laminated maple neck, rim and resonator, original black hard shell case.

The Style 2 Orchestra model was only the second model up in Weymann's Megaphonic professional line, but is absolutely a top quality, fancy banjo. The Style 2 retailed originally at the not inconsiderable sum of $185.00 in 1928. It features the company's patented megaphonic rim with the hooks running through it, the most elegant of 1920's banjo designs.

Like all Weymann banjos, this is an extremely finely-made instrument with the company's customary attention to detail evident everywhere. The neck is laminated maple with multiple wood laminates through the center, at the heelcap, and under the fingerboard. The ebony fretboard is inlaid with fancy shaped pearl and bound in grained ivoroid.

The headstock overlay carries a diagonal "Weymann" logo of inlaid individual pearl letters surrounded by an elaborate floral design. The resonator is nicely figured maple with binding on both edges; the rim top is capped in rosewood with an inlaid half-herringbone strip. There is an attractive rosewood armrest mounted to the hoop, a unique Weymann feature. The very fancy decorative flange covers the space between the resonator wall and megaphonic rim in grand style! The unique Weymann adjustable tailpiece has an engraved slide-off cover. This is a beautifully crafted, great-sounding, and extremely classy tenor banjo.

Overall length is 34 in. (86.4 cm.), 11 in. (27.9 cm.) diameter head, and 3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 23 in. (584 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/8 in. (29 mm.).

Very nice and all original; set up with skin head. One repaired crack to resonator wall near neck cutout, and one small chip missing from wooden armrest. Light play wear overall; a very good-playing and sounding banjo. Excellent Condition.
