Item #4790

Vox Spitfire Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1965-6), made in Italy, white polyester finish, hardwood body, laminated maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, black tolex chipboard case.

With the same electronics and hardware as the infamous Phantom and "teardrop" Mark series guitars, the 1960's Vox Spitfire has the same sound but a visually different stylistic groove! A fairly obvious Stratocaster knockoff, the Spitfire is the Italian made descendant of the Soundcaster, Super Ace and Consort models built at Dartford, Kent in the earlier '60's. This guitar shares its mutant-Fender body with the Tempest XII 12-string, and features the typical Vox pickups, vibrato unit and fancy covered bridge with spring-action mute assembly. The Spitfire was not one of Vox's budget models and is a nicely-made instrument from Eko's Recanti, Italy factory. While perhaps not Vox's most stylish guitar, the Spitfire is a fun 60's solidbody at a very affordable price. This one is in a rather rare white finish, a catalog option that is rarely seen and looks much cooler than the standard sunburst!

Overall length is 38 1/2 in. (97.8 cm.), 12 7/8 in. (32.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). All original except the switch tip; missing the vibrato handle and spring. Finish has some general wear and typical Vox/Eko checking, there is a bit of staining on the back but overall looks nice. The pickguard has some typical shrinkage and several corners have chipped off. Overall a nice example of a rare custom-color Vox. Very Good + Condition.
