Ventura M-70 Model Arch Top Mandolin, c. 1970's, made in Japan, sunburst finish, maple back, sides and neck, spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.
The "Ventura" name is relatively obscure, but this good quality Japanese made F-5 style mandolin was built in a era when instruments of this type were offered under a number of brands. Despite its laminated wood construction this mandolin has a surprisingly good sound and is very neatly made, typical of the better Japanese instruments of the era.
Overall length is 27 1/2 in. (69.8 cm.), 10 in. (25.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/8 in. (29 mm.). Very clean overall and an excellent player; appears all original except for a more recent pickguard. The only other alteration is the mandolin has been electrified with an in-saddle pickup and added endpin jack. On the whole this is a very nice gigging mandolin, one of the better instruments of this type we have seen. Excellent + Condition.
