Item #5560
Vega Tu-Ba-Phone-Vegaphone Profressional Conversion Model 5 String Banjo (1929), made in Boston, Mass., serial # 87105, shaded maple finish, laminated maple neck and rin, ebony fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.
An excellent Vega conversion; newer 5-string neck (likely 1980's) using the original headstock veneer on a 1929 Vegaphone Professional pot. Set up with Planet tuners, a new Presto tailpiece; all other rim components original. The historically correct neck was made by Kentucky master craftsman James Webb using the original headstock overlay. A very fine old-time banjo.
Overall length is 36 1/2 in. (92.7 cm.), 10 15/16 in. (27.8 cm.) diameter head, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 26 in. (660 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/16 in. (33 mm.). Excellent Condition.
