Item #2746
Vega Lap Steel Electric Guitar, c. 1940, made in Boston, silver paint finish, wood body with metal faceplate, rosewood fingerboard, original brown fabric covered hard shell case.
A very interesting early Vega lap steel electric with the earliest twin-coil humbucking pickup known. Two-point silver-painted wooden body has sculpted edge and integral neck. Large cast metal pickup; bridge and tailpiece assembly has volume and tone control on either side with small Bakelite radio knobs and embossed Vega logo.
Unusual twin-coil pickup with two huge horseshoe magnets UNDER the coils, 12 individual non-adjusting polepieces, and horseshoe magnet-like cover plates. This design predates Gibson's humbucking pickup by at least 15 years. Fluted headstock with top point carries stylized Vega logo. Red felt padding on back, output jack on bass side. Flush fret, bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay.
A striking instrument visually and great-sounding as well, with original hard case.
Overall length is 31 7/8 in. (81 cm.), 9 1/4 in. (23.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm.) deep. Scale length is 22 3/4 in. (578 mm.). Very Good + Condition.
