Item #6642
Celebrated Benary Style G Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (unlabelled), c. 1900, made in New York City, natural varnish finish, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.
Overall length is 36 3/4 in. (93.3 cm.), 11 1/2 in. (29.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/2 in. (8.9 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 1/2 in. (622 mm.). Width of nut is 1 13/16 in. (46 mm.). This guitar has had a lot of restoration, but is a very fine player with a lot of sound for an instrument of this fairly diminutive size! The original Tilton-style floating tailpiece/bridge setup has been replaced with a typical Stella-style pin bridge; although technically incorrect this almost certainly resulted in a richer sounding guitar. This instrument was likely originally fitted with the "Tilton's improvement" internal support bar between the tailpiece and headblock, but there is no remaining evidence visible. There is wear overall, some deep re-stringing marks into the wood behind the bridge and a fairly large crack repair on the lower treble side. Currently the guitar plays extremely well, and comes with a nice modern HSC. Overall Very Good + Condition.
