Item #4389
Supro Studio Model 1444 Model Lap Steel Electric Guitar (1958), made in Chicago, grey pearloid finish, hardwood body, original black soft shell case.
A very cool pearloid-covered Valco-made steel from the late 1950s. The infamous hot 1950s Supro pickup is hidden under metal cover, with controls for tone and volume and the jack sharing the same metal mounting plate. Typical "studio" product of the era, made for issue to the thousands of kids signed up for music lessons in the '50s. Whoever got this one was lucky...it COULD have been an accordion! Very well-preserved and a nice little screamer of a steel.
Overall length is 32 1/4 in. (81.9 cm.), 8 1/2 in. (21.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 23 in. (584 mm.). Width of nut is 1 15/16 in. (49 mm.).
All original with only minor wear; tuner buttons shrinking somewhat, but still functional. Excellent Condition.
