Item #5219

Supertone Model 414 Model 5 String Banjo, made by Slingerland, c. 1920's, made in Chicago, natural finish, spunover rim, maple neck with dyed maple fingerboard, gig bag case.

Overall length is 36 in. (91.4 cm.), 10 3/4 in. (27.3 cm.) diameter head, and 2 3/8 in. (6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 26 1/4 in. (667 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.). A decent amount of wear and some modifications; there is a repair tag inside rim dated to 1979 West Virginia! Fitted with 1970's Planet tuners with Grover geared 5th string peg, plastic head and a repro No-Knot tailpiece. Rim plating badly scuffed by an overzealous cleaning, hoop plating heavily worn. Dowel re-attached to rim at a sharper angle, as typically done by many old-school repairmen. Surprizingly fine sound; a good beginner's or knock-around gigging example of a cool and authentic pre-WWII 5-string. Overall Very Good + Condition.
