S. S. Stewart Composite Model 5 String Banjo, c. 1890's, made in Philadelphia, natural finish, cherrywood neck with ebonized fingerboard; double spunover rim.
Overall length is 35 3/4 in. (90.8 cm.), 10 3/4 in. (27.3 cm.) diameter head, and 2 5/8 in. (6.7 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 26 1/4 in. (667 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.).
A good player; appears to be built up of mostly 19th century parts -- a double spun, fairly heavy rim; an S.S. Stewart neck with a new fingerboard, dowel, and headstock facing. A good-sounding old-time banjo. Generally Very Good + Condition.
