Item #3079
Rickenbacker Model G-6 Deluxe Hawaiian Model Lap Steel Electric Guitar, c. 1949, made in Los Angeles, California, chrome plated finish, stamped metal body.
The Model G was the most expensive and deluxe steel offered by Rickenbacker when it debuted in the late 1940's. With a shiny chromed body and gold accents, it is still an extremely flashy and eye-catching sight today! Equipped with the early post-war version of the famed horseshoe-magnet pickup, it is also a great-sounding steel guitar.
Metal-body Rickenbackers in general have a small amount of natural body resonance which gives them a slight natural "reverb" effect compared to the dryer sounding Bakelite steels. This results in a 'ghostlier' tone with a bit less clarity but more overtones.
This Model G features gold-plated Kluson Deluxe tuners with gold sparkle plastic buttons, a gold-backed Lucite fingerboard and heavily gold-plated tailpiece, pickup housing, and hinged headstock cover. The knobs are see-through clear Lucite.
This is a steel guitar worthy of the Liberace orchestra and a great playable piece of 1950's California design.
Overall length is 29 3/4 in. (75.6 cm.), 9 1/4 in. (23.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 22 1/2 in. (572 mm.). Width of nut is 2 1/4 in. (57 mm.).
Very nice condition overall; one localized spot of plating wear to headstock cover, otherwise not very much wear. Pickup lovingly rewound to original spec by the esteemed Jason Lollar, guru of all things horseshoe-magnet. Some carpet-like material to the back that is probably not original, but useful, so we have left it in place.
A nice example of a rare Rickenbacker. Excellent Condition.
