Rickenbacker Model 360/12 Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1966), made in Santa Ana, CA, natural lacquer finish, maple body and neck, padouk fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.

The Rickenbacker Model 360-12 is one of the absolute classic 1960s American guitars; a unique sound with an entire style of music centered around it. A mainstay of the company's line from 1964 right up through to the present, the 360-12 is the instrument that really put Rickenbacker on the map. The Model 360-12 was the more deluxe style of the Rickenbacker 12-string and remains virtually an icon of the '60s, synonymous to many with the sound of the folk-rock era as well as more recent "jangle" styles.

These remain one of the sharpest-looking and most distinctive-sounding of all American guitar designs, and kicked off a wave of popularity for the electric 12-string in 1964-6. This 360-12 has a very vibrant classic "fireglo" finish as used by George Harrison of the Beatles, Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, and countless others, and has a timeless "cool" factor. A must for anyone who desires the classic sound and look only one of these can provide.

Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 15 1/4 in. (38.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) deep. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).

This guitar plays (and looks) great but has had some major repairs -- "someone threw it down a flight of stairs" is the story we were told! There are very well-repaired long cracks completely through the length of body from the tip of the lower cutaway horn to the spot just above the tailpiece cutout. This entire piece of the body appears to have been very cleanly reattached with some well-done finish touchup, and is both completely solid and less conspicuous than it sounds like it ought to be!

The neck had long cracks below the fingerboard from the nut extending to around the 5th fret area, again resealed very cleanly; the bass side crack extends farther across the circumference of the back of the neck and is more noticeable. The headstock area was not cracked, nor were the heel and neck joint damaged, and the neck angle is still better than many of these!

All electronics and hardware are original (the pots are dated 6601) except for the lower pickguard (likely destroyed in the crash), and the original upper guard has one cracked corner repaired. Amazingly enough this is actually a very good-playing and sounding example, despite its traumatic past! While no longer a "collectible" example, this is a very fine 12-string for a gigging or recording example; an original 1960s Rickenbacker 360-12 for less than the price of a reissue! Overall Very Good + Condition.
