Item #1902
Regal Pearl-Trimmed Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1928, made in Chicago, natural lacquer finish, Brazillian rosewood back and sides, spruce top, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard, green abalone trim, black original chipboard case.
A spectacular pearl trimmed small-body flattop labeled Regal, very much at the highest level of work that company was capable of. As with some topline Harmony instruments, this guitar shows that the Chicago factories of the 1920's could turn out a beautifully appointed high-grade guitar as well as the moderate quality instruments they are best remembered for.
Top, back sides, and soundhole are bound in black plastic with layers of chain link marquetry. Gorgeous green abalone trim around top and soundhole; vibrant colored wood backstripe. Fingerboard has mixed large dot-and-diamond inlay. Bridge ends are ornamented with pearl circles. Small shaped pearl inset on rosewood veneered headstock. V-contour mahogany neck with B/W bound ebony fingerboard. Very fine figured Brazillian rosewood back and sides.
An unusual find in a small pre-war flattop perfectly preserved.
Overall length is 37 in. (94 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 11/16 in. (9.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/8 in. (619 mm.).
Very fine overall; all original except bridgepins and tuners. One small repaired impact crack to back; top center seam has opened slightly behind bridge. Finish checking noticeable on top.
Plays great with silk and steel strings and has a nice delicate tone. Original SSC comes complete with internal gingham bag made by previous farmgirl owner (or that's the story we got)! Excellent Condition.
