Pearl Parametric EQ Owned and Used by Tom Verlaine Model Equalizer Pedal Effect (1980s), made in Japan, serial # 898443, black and orange finish, aluminum.
The Japanese company Pearl, perhaps better known for their drum equipment, did experiment with a line of pedals in the 1980's known as their "Sound Spice" series, a line of original pedal designs with basically all the usual suspects of a pedal company: a chorus, a reverb, an overdrive, and so on. They even offered a powered pedalboard called the "Spice Rack!" The Pearl PE-10 is a two-band parametric eq from the series, fairly self explanatory in function. It is a straightforward bread-and-butter utility pedal, placing an additional layer of tone sculpting at your fingertips (or rather feet). Each band allows you to select the target frequency from 100Hz to 6.4kH, the filter slope, and the level of boost or cut of that frequency giving you more control over the dynamics of your frequencies of choice than, say, a more multiband EQ pedal. Use it to fine tune the harmonic qualities of your guitar, or try a more drastic eq to center the frequencies of your choice in one click.
This particular example belonged to Television's Tom Verlaine, and we have it on good authority from his long time musical collaborator that this was one of his more regularly stage-use pedals despite its generally quite good condition.
Height is 5 1/4 in. (13.3 cm.), 3 in. (7.6 cm.) width, and 2 in. (5.1 cm.) in depth at deepest point.
This pedal is in fully functional condition, completely original with minimal traces of cosmetic wear from stage and studio use by Mr. Verlaine. One knob is not damaged or functionally impaired at all but is missing the little plastic orange washer on top, purely cosmetic. Though the pedal is not very worn, this was one of a few pedals within the broader collection that was explicitly marked as as having been a frequently stage used pedal. This pedal does not come with a box, but it does come with a letter of authenticity signed by Patrick Derivaz, Verlaine's close friend and long time musical collaborator from whom we received the pedal and the information about its regular stage use. Very Good + Condition.
