Item #571
Soprano Ukulele, most likely made by Nicola Turturro, c. 1925, made in New York, NY, natural lacquer finish, curly mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard.
Early-mid 1920's US-made soprano ukulele. Appears to made in Brooklyn by Turturro, possibly for Bruno or another wholesale account as it bears no stamp or label.
Beautiful grained dark mahogany body in older narrow-waisted shape with wide triple ivoroid binding on top and back. 5-ply ivoroid soundhole binding. Bound mahogany neck with dot-inlayed rosewood fingerboard, bone nut, white button friction pegs.
A very classy and well-made uke.
Overall length is 20.625 in. (52.4 cm.), 6.25 in. (15.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2.375 in. (6 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 13.25 in. (336 mm.).
Excellent overall condition, all original. Light finish wear, most noticable on headstock, no cracks. Two tiny pins in headstock probably once held a nameplate. Plays and sounds excellent.
