Item #2903

National Style 1 Tricone Squareneck Model Resophonic Guitar (1927), made in Los Angeles, California, nickel plated finish, German silver body, rosewood fingerboard, black tolex original hard shell case.

A very early example of what is generally considered the finest acoustic Hawaiian guitar ever created, the National Tricone. This Style 1 Squareneck, serial # 321, is one of the first few hundred produced in the second half of 1927 and has several features particular to these early instruments.

The back of the nickel silver body is flat, not arched, and the fingerboard is rosewood rather than ebony, and bound on the sides but not the end.

The tailpiece is the "Stella style" fitting with ball-end posts used only for the first few hundred Nationals, and the logo decal is an unusual early style as well.

This is a very fine guitar for Hawaiian music or any acoustic slide style as well as an interesting historical piece.

Overall length is 38 7/8 in. (98.7 cm.), 14 1/8 in. (35.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/8 in. (7.9 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.).

Excellent original condition, with average light wear and scratching to the plating. Some typical small dents and wear to the handrest area of the coverplate. Excellent + Condition.
