Item #7076

National Duolian Model Resophonic Guitar (1934), made in Chicago, nickel plated finish, steel body, basswood neck with rosewood fingerboard.

Overall length is 38 1/8 in. (96.8 cm.), 14 1/8 in. (35.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/4 in. (8.3 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This old resonator guitar has been heavily altered from original, but still presents as a nice playing, sounding, and looking National. This is a very early 14-fret Duolian from 1934-5, combining the older style slotted headstock with the newer "rolled in" f-holes on the top. The original painted finish on the body has been replaced with a high-quality nickel-plating job, and the neck refinished to natural. The tuners are from the 1960s, and the cone and biscuit appear newer.

There are a couple of added decorations: an enameled National shield logo pin on the headstock and a nifty old printed piece on the body that reads "Yankee Girl". The original "National Duolian" logo and serial number on the headstock are intact. The original tailpiece shows a small repair. As National never offered a played Duolian, this guitar is a fairly unique package of features with a fine vintage sound. Restored to Excellent Condition.
