Multi-Kord 6 string - 6 pedal Model Pedal Steel Electric Guitar (1953), made in Indianapolis, natural lacquer finish, laminated maple body, original tweed hard shell case.

The Harlin Brothers of Indianapolis, IN were early pioneers of the pedal steel guitar, holding several important patents. Among others, Gibson licensed the brothers' pitch-changing mechanism for their pedal steel instruments in the 50's. In that era, the brothers' own brand was Multi-Kord, and the instruments were popular at the local level.

One of the advantages of the Multi-Kord pitch-changing system is relative ease of setting up each guitar individually to the player's preferred tuning. This 6-string dates to 1953 and the 'butcher block' style body is finished in natural maple with understated brown accents.

The tuners and pitch changers are covered with molded plastic covers in an eye-popping fluorescent orange that look like Tupperware on acid! The logo block is a particularly attractive raised design with red lettering on gold. The pickup is the same seen in contemporary harmony Stratotones and is a very good-sounding unit. This is a good steel for the player on a budget and would be perfect for a beginning steeler, as the 6-string setup is a simple jump from lap guitars.

Overall length is 36 in. (91.4 cm.), 8 in. (20.3 cm.) wide, and 2 in. (5.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 22 3/4 in. (578 mm.). Width of nut is 2 1/4 in. (57 mm.).

All original with some finish wear to the top, including several long scratches, but no major damage. One of the pedal cables is worn but still functional, and the insrtument will need adjustment to the player's preferred pitch changing setup. Includes a beautiful original case in very nice condition. Overall Excellent Condition.
