Item #3011

Masaru Kohno Model #5 Model Classical Guitar (1969), made in Tokyo, Japan, natural lacquer finish, rosewood back and sides, cedar top, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard.

Masaru Kohno is generally considered the dean of Japanese luthiers, and his craftsmanship is extremely fine by any standard. This Kohno dates from not long after the luthier won the gold medal at the Concours National de Guitares in Liege, Belgium in 1967. This guitar was handmade by the master himself some time before the Kohno operation expanded to include factory-built instruments.

This instrument is a simple but expertly-made concert guitar without the Spanish slipper heel and other refinements of the higher end Kohnos, but it has a very fine sound and looks virtually unused.

Overall length is 39 1/8 in. (99.4 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout. Scale length is 25 3/4 in. (654 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).

Extremely fine overall; some small scratches to the back. Otherwise, it is near mint. Excellent + Condition.
