Item #6385

Lyon & Healy Washburn Style 703 Model Soprano Ukulele, c. 1923, made in Chicago, natural finish, koa wood body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.

A beautiful fancy Koa wood ukulele from Lyon & Healy with a striking grain pattern on the back of the body and the company's trademark floral stencil on the front. It features an ivoroid bound body with Washburn's patented "smile" bridge with ebony saddle; ebony nut and ivoroid dot inlay in the rosewood fingerboard, with a celluloid kite inlay in headstock. This was a fairly expensive instrument ($25.00) when new and is still a very fine uke today.

Overall length is 21 in. (53.3 cm.), 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 13 3/4 in. (349 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/16 in. (33 mm.). This is a beautiful, all original uke. One long solidly repaired back crack, some light wear overall but really spry for a 91 year old! An excellent sounding instrument complete with a modern HSC. Excellent - Condition.
