Item #5085
Kay Kay Kraft Style A Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1931, made in Chicago, sunburst lacquer with stenciling finish, laminated mahogany body, spruce top; mahogany neck with ebonized fingerboard, black gig bag case.
A good playing example of Kay's signature early-'30's line of asymmetrical-bodied round hole archtops, this one carrying the "house" Kay Kraft brand name. This mahogany-bodied Style A guitar was the lowest of the 3-guitar line, the original price listing at $25.00 around 1931. The triple bound sunburst top has elaborate stencil decoration on the lower half, over a shaded sunburst finish. The bolt on neck is adjustable for angle with a huge wing nut on neck block, which actually works for setting the action although it was a rather short-lived feature. The white pearloid headstock is adorned with a gold-painted raised "Kay Kraft" logo and edging decoration.
Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide, and 3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 3/4 in. (654 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). Well-played but in good playing condition-recently serviced; refretted and rebound fingerboard, original non-adjustable bridge tweaked for intonation. New repro tuners and the pickguard is missing in action. A lot of general wear and the sides have noticeable moisture damage to the finish, but overall not not a b. A good player's Kay Kraft with above-average sound. Very Good + Condition.
