Item #3607
Kay K-20 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1950, made in Chicago, sunburst lacquer finish, maple back and sides, spruce top; maple neck with rosewood fingerboard.
A nice early 1950's mid-line flat top from Kay in Chicago. The finish is red sunburst all around with a multi-bound spruce top, ladder braced over a maple back and sides. This guitar retailed at $40 in the early 1950's and is a nice working instrument still.
Overall length is 41 3/8 in. (105.1 cm.), 15 1/2 in. (39.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/16 in. (10.3 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).
Some average play wear and dings overall; no major damage or repair. All original finish and hardware. This is an exceptionally good player as these Kay flattops go, having had a neckset, new nut and saddle, and the fingerboard rebound. Surprisingly good sound, fairly bright and punchy with plenty of volume. A cool gigging or writing guitar and as good a player as came out of Chicago in the 1950's. Very Good + Condition.
