Item #6292
Kay K-161 Thin Twin Model Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (Early 1950's), made in Chicago, natural top, dark back and sides finish, laminated maple body; maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. An interesting unbranded Kay-made Thin Twin model, from fairly early in the model's run. The pots are early enough to carry no date code, which in itself dates it to 1954 or earlier. Thie one also has the truss rod adjustor mounted in the heelWith a natural maple top and back, dark sides and an eye-catching flamey-tortiose celluloid pickguard this one is quite a looker, and a good player as well. A very nice "Jimmy Reed" model, identical to the one he's pictured with in the rmid-1950's except for the lack of a "Kay" logo.
Overall length is 40 5/16 in. (102.4 cm.), 15 in. (38.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 11/16 in. (6.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 3/4 in. (654 mm.). Width of nut is 1 13/16 in. (46 mm.). A very nice eaxmple, and easily the best playing Thin Twin we have had thanks to a very well executed neck set and refret. Appears all original except the tailpiece, only some minor wear overall, there is a cool old "Allied Van Lines" moving sticker on the side by the cutaway, likely indicating some uncased travel of this guitar long ago. Excellent - Condition.
