Item #673
Kay Hollow Body Electric Mandolin, c. 1951, made in Chicago, brown sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple back and sides, laminated maple top.
An interesting A-style f-hole electric mandolin from Kay. Blade-style pickup typical of the early to mid 50's, tone and volume controls mounted on upper bout side. Cord with 1/4" jack is hardwired integral to the instrument! Pots are dated to mid-1951, with enormous old wax capicitor on tone pot. Single bound top, back and neck, sunburst finish all around with applied subtle "woodgrain" shading. Cream plastic pickguard, "clamshell" tailpiece cover, and adjustable rosewood bridge.
The perfect "blues" mandolin!
Overall length is 27 7/8 in. (70.8 cm.), 10 1/2 in. (26.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 1/2 in. (6.4 cm.) in depth at side. Scale length is 13 7/8 in. (352 mm.).
Overall fine condition with some finish wear, mostly on treble side. Plays and sounds fine (if you like the electric mandolin, of course)!
