Item #1424

Kalamazoo KG-11 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1937, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, natural back and sides finish, spruce top, mahogany body and neck, brown original chipboard case.

A nice example of the small-bodied flat top from Gibson's prewar budget Kalamazoo line. This guitar has no direct equivalent Gibson flattop, having a smaller more truncated upper bout than the familiar L-00 body in use at this time. The KG-11 is built of the same materials as similar Gibsons but is ladder braced and has no truss rod. Single-bound sunburst top with triple-bound soundhole, fire stripe pickguard.

Lacquered over Gibson bridge with no pearl dots, bone saddle and ebony nut, black plastic button strip tuners. The headstock is pointed on the top with a white screened Kalamazoo logo. Nice chunky neck with soft "V" profile, 14 frets to the body.

Plays well and is an excellent choice for finger-style or slide blues playing, as the ladder braced top results in a sound perhaps best described as halfway between a Gibson and an old Stella.

Overall length is 38 1/2 in. (97.8 cm.), 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 in. (10.2 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.).

100% original and extremely clean overall, only very minor finish dings and wear. Finish still shiny, extremely well preserved and little-used for a guitar of this era. This is the nicest-playing and sounding one of these we have ever had. Original chipboard case somewhat worn but still fully functional. Excellent + Condition.
