Silvertone Model 1446L Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar, made by Harmony, c. 1962, made in Chicago, black lacquer finish, laminated maple body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, gig bag case.
One of the best guitars ever sold through Sears-Roebuck, the Silvertone 1446 is both a sharp looking and great sounding guitar. This unique model combines a sharp-looking black finished Harmony thinline hollow body and deluxe neck with a Bigsby tailpiece and mini-humbucking pickups supplied by CMI/Gibson. These are the same as used on the contemporary Epiphone line, the only difference being a 3-and-3 staggered polepiece pattern as opposed to the straight line. This makes for a very professional instrument for a Silvertone, and one that has a justifiable reputation as one of the very best Harmony made guitars of the 1960's.
Overall length is 40 3/4 in. (103.5 cm.), 15 3/4 in. (40 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 in. (610 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). A very good playing example of this Americal Garage band classic; well used but still a fine gigging guitar. There is general wear overall, most notably finish scrapes to the headstock edges, but the finish is original and overall looks good. There are some dings into but not through the lacquer on the back of the neck, and a few marks on the top where the bridge was once glued down. The tuners have been restored to the original style, there remains visible evidence of larger machines mounted at some point. The Bigsby is original put the handle is newer; all other hardware is original. There is a small chip in the nut and the bottom corner tips broken off the plastic truss rod cover, but no structural damage or repair. Great sounding, not the cleanest but one of the better players of this model we have had. Overall Very Good + Condition.
