Item #6144
Harmony H-35 Model Hollow Body Electric Mandolin, c. 1972, made in Chicago, serial # 2570H8025, sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, black chipboard case.
An unusual and fancy styled electric mandolin from the later days of the illustrious Harmony company. The single-bound scooped double cutaway body has an extended upper cutawaty and eccentrically shaped "F" holes, with a headstock shape that mirrors the body. The DeArmond "Golden Tone" pickup is centrally mounted with tone and volume controls on the lower bout. The bound rosewood fingerboard has pearloid block inlay. This particular instrument carries an internal body stamp indicating it was originally built in a batch of H-8025 acoustic mandolins, but was finished out as an electric. This style of mandolin was the favored instrument of Blues mandolin legend Yank Rachell for many years and one can be seen in numerous pictures of him.
Overall length is 27 3/8 in. (69.5 cm.), 10 1/4 in. (26 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.). Light wear overall, no repairs or alterations except appears to have had newer strap buttons added. About as nice as we have ever had, an excellent playing and sounding example. Excellent Condition.
