Item #4421
Guild Starfire III Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1968), made in Hoboken, NJ, black lacquer finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, gig bag case.
A great-playing 1968 single cutaway Starfire III in a rare special-ordered solid black finish, with stock Guild Bigsby tailpiece and bridge. Fully hollow thinline body bound top and back; bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay. Chrome Guild Humbucking pickups with standard Gibson-style wiring rig. A great '60s rock and roll guitar from the end of the "Beat Boom" era, and one of the few remaining competitively affordable original classic American guitars.
This model was extensively used by many mid-1960s groups including the Kinks, Beau Brummels, Music Machine, Dakotas, and many more, and was easily Guild's most popular professional grade electric guitar. The solid black finish on this example was a catalog option but is rarely seen, making this a rare as well as very striking-looking guitar.
Overall length is 41 1/2 in. (105.4 cm.), 16 1/4 in. (41.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).
All original (except possibly switch tip) and very nice overall. Some general finish wear (most noticeable on back of neck) and light dings. Headstock laminate seam has been re-glued on bass side in the D and A tuner area. Overall a very nice and fine-playing example of a '60s custom finish Starfire. Generally Excellent Condition.
