Item #5950
Guild Starfire III Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1965), made in Hoboken, NJ, cherry lacquer finish, laminated mahogany body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.
A super nice example of an early 1965 single cutaway Starfire III, with the Guild-logo Bigsby tailpiece and bridge and Guild Humbucking pickups. This model is a fully hollow thinline body with cherry finish, bound top and back. The SF III is a great '60's Rock and Roll guitar from the height of the 'Beat Boom' era, and one of the few remaining competitively affordable original classic American guitars. This model was extensively used by many mid-1960's groups including the Kinks, Beau Brummels, Music Machine, Dakotas and many more and was easily Guild's most popular professional grade electric guitar.
Overall length is 41 3/8 in. (105.1 cm.), 16 1/4 in. (41.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). One of the nicest of these we have had; very clean, shiny cherry finish with no fade; all original hardware with no repairs or alterations. There is very little play wear, some very small dings and scrapes-there is one small feelable ding in the back of the neck behind the 8th fret and a ding through the finish on the top by the Bigsby. The binding has shrunken slightly in the cutaway on both back and front, but is not deteriorating at all. The plating on the switch ring is somewhat worn. Overall one of the absolute nicest of this model we have had, a very fine player including the OHSC. Excellent Condition.
