Item #7473

Guild Starfire III Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1964), made in Hoboken, NJ, cherry lacquer finish, Laminated mahogany body, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

A superb nice example of an early 1964 single cutaway Starfire III, equipped with the Guild-logo Bigsby tailpiece and bridge and Guild Humbucking pickups that had recently replaced the original single-coil DeArmonds on this model. The Starfire III is a fully hollow thinline 16" guitar with deep cherry finish, with the body bound top and back. This one has earlier features like the rounded-edge pickguard and Grover Sta-Tite tuners. The Starfire is great '60's Rock and Roll guitar from the height of the 'Beat Boom' era, and one of the few remaining comparatively affordable original classic American guitars. This particular model was extensively used by many mid-1960's groups including the Kinks, Beau Brummels, Music Machine, Dakotas and many more and was easily Guild's most popular professional grade electric guitar.

Overall length is 40 11/16 in. (103.3 cm.), 16 1/4 in. (41.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). This Starfire is all original and very clean, as nice an example as we have seen in a long time. The finish is still shiny and unfazed with only some scuffing on the back and small dings. The only alteration is the Bigsby bridge top has been slightly re-sculpted on the top and bottom for better action and intonation. A great playing and sounding guitar, with a clean original case too. Excellent + Condition.
