Item #7140
Guild M-65 Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1968), made in Hoboken, NJ, cherry lacquer finish, laminated mahogany back and sides; laminated maple top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black chipboard case.
The Guild M-65 is a relatively obscure but great playing little guitar, with a small fully hollow f-hole body fairly unusual in the 1960's. This example has the rarer full-scale neck; many of the M-65's found today are the 3/4 model with a short-scale fingerboard. Despite its diminutive body, the guitar is surprisingly full sounding, incredibly light, and very comfortable to handle. This example was made in 1968, not long before Guild moved out of their Hoboken factory, so it still sports typical period features including the "Mickey Mouse" single-coil pickup, harp tailpiece, and Japanese-made strip tuners. One of Guild's cool but often forgotten designs, this M-65 3/4 is a neat piece of unusual vintage Guild cool.
Overall length is 39 9/16 in. (100.5 cm.), 13 3/4 in. (34.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 1/16 in. (5.2 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).
All original with no repairs or alterations; there is some wear overall -- mostly dings and chips to the finish, especially along the back edges. The cherry lacquer still shines a bright red with virtually no fade, and some typical light checking. The plastic headstock veneer shows some slight shrinkage and scuffing, but is better preserved than many from this period. An excellent player; a very light and handy guitar with a good sound. Includes a period, but not particularly well-fit, generic chipboard case that may well have originally come with the guitar. Excellent - Condition.
