Item #5598

Guild F-212 Model 12 String Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1966-7), made in Hoboken, NJ, natural lacquer finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; laminated mahogany neck, original black tolex hard shell case.

We consider the early Hoboken era Guild F-212s to be easily one of the best postwar 12-strings ever made, and this is a particularly great example. This one is a bit of an oddball, too -- it has a serial number in the series normally allocated to the larger 17" wide F-212-XL, but is clearly a 16" F-212, with standard cosmetic features for that model!

For some reason the serial number records for the F-212XL are missing, but based on its features, this guitar appears to date to 1966 or 1967. The label is missing, so we may never know what Guild factory called it! Intriguingly, the original case appears to be for a 17" guitaras if it was allocated based on the serial # for a larger guitar! Whatever it was originally sold as, this is a magnificent guitar with a truly majestic sound and in exceptionally fine playing condition.

Overall length is 42 3/4 in. (108.6 cm.), 15 7/8 in. (40.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 7/8 in. (12.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/8 in. (48 mm.).

A simply superb example; perfect neck set, uncut bridge, hardly any wear anywhere except for a few tiny dings. We see a lot of F-212s, but very rarely in this sort of condition. Fabulous sound, absolutely one of the very best 1960s Guild 12-strings we have ever seen. Excellent + Condition.
