Item #6149
Guild F-212 Model 12 String Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1963), made in Hoboken, NJ, natural finish, mahogany back, sides and neck; spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, hard shell case.
We consider the Hoboken-built Guild F-212 of the 1960's to be easily one of the best postwar 12-strings ever made, and this is a good player's example. The medium-sized mahogany body and spruce top combine to produce a warm yet bright sound with a lot of power and plenty of 'ring'. The big wide mahogany neck with a center maple strip lamination and unbound rosewood fingerboard is quite comfortable. This is a very early example from the first production year, with a flat-radius fingerboard and no fretboard dots. The F-212 was the world standard acoustic 12-string when new in , and remains so today!
Overall length is 42 3/4 in. (108.6 cm.), 15 7/8 in. (40.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/4 in. (12.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.). This guitar is an excellent player, recently set up and with a lot of work done over time. The top is frefinished (a nice thin lacquer, but not profesionally buffed out) and the remainder of the guitar has a thin overspray. The bridge is original but is somewhat cut down and has four filled screw holes in the wings; the bridgeplate is newer. The top center seam has a splice, there are several old grain splits in front of the bridge but the rest of the guitar is crack-free. The pickguard appears to be a more recent replacement, in the correct shape and style. The guitar has had a neckset and plays very well with the typically excellent sound these are known for-a very good gigging example at a much lower price than a clean, original F-212 from this period. Very Good + Condition.
