Item #3412

Grunewald "The Harp Guitar" 10 String Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1896, made in New Orleans, LA, faux rosewood and natural varnish finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top.

A spectacular and extremely rare example of 19th century American guitar ingenuity, and a fabulous-sounding instrument. While this is a very small-bodied instrument, the tone is amazingly rich and complex. This is a 10-string guitar with single high E and B strings, double G's, and octaves on the D, A, and E courses. This design and stringing was patented in 1896, and this guitar appears to date from around that time.

Overall length is 38 in. (96.5 cm.), 11 3/4 in. (29.8 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 1/2 in. (622 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/8 in. (48 mm.).

Very fine playing condition; recently restored. Excellent Condition.
