Item #5803
Gretsch PX-6117 Double Anniversary Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1960), made in Brooklyn, NY, serial # 33232, sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple body and neck, ebonized fingerboard, original grey hard shell case.
This very early 1960 Model 6117 Anniversary sports several distinctive Gretsch features that make for a much more sought-after guitar than 1961 and later examples. Built on the same body and neck style as the highly sought-after Chet Atkins model 6120 these 6117's are often under-appreciated guitars, with the same "Great Gretsch Sound". This early example has two "PAF" filtertron pickups, an neo-classic fingerboard with no zero fret the "trestle braced" body construction with the top bracing arching down to meet the back. This is an especially desirable feature as it results in a stronger, tighter sounding guitar with much more resistance to feedback but was only used during this 1958-61 period. This is one of the nicer Gretsch's we have had recently, a real honey to play with a singing sound.
Overall length is 41 3/4 in. (106 cm.), 15 3/4 in. (40 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 5/8 in. (6.7 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 1/2 in. (622 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). This guitar is super clean overall; the finish is very well preserved with very little of play wear and a bright unfaded sunburst. There is little chipping under the bridge, otherwise the lacquer is hardly worn or checked at all. The only major issue is some typical shrinkage and first-stage cracking to the back binding (NOT on the top edge) and fillet in the cutaway; it is not crumbling and at this point does not affect play at all. There is a little pitting to the fingerboard but the frets are still quite good. A very good player, the neck angle is fine and the Filter'Tron pickups sound excellent. A really nice gigging Gretsch, priced to reflect the binding conditionnow just past its 50th birthday and going strong! Excellent - Condition.
