Item #2438

Gretsch Duo Jet Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1962), made in Brooklyn, NY, black top, dark stained back and sides finish, mahogany body and neck, ebony fingerboard, original hard shell case.

A very nice original example of an early double-cutaway Duo Jet, one of the "baddest" looking guitars ever. The shiny black lacquered top and gold hardware combine for a striking, elegant visual impression, while twin Filter'tron pickups provide plenty of musical muscle.

In 1962, Gretsch had just shifted the Model 6128 Duo Jet from a single to a double cutaway design, and added the Burns Mk9 vibrato in place of the previous fixed tailpiece or occasional Bigsby. This guitar features the standard Gretsch 1960s wiring rig with master volume, individual volumes, standby switch, pickup selector, and tone switch (AKA "mud" switch), which has baffled generations of guitar players.

The gold-plated vibrato features an embossed Gretsch logo on the molded tip, and actually works well with a smooth action. Both pickups sound spectacular with the traditional Filter'tron ring and crunch. Playability is excellent (which is not always so for Jets), and overall this is one of the nicest Jets we have seen.

Overall length is 40 1/4 in. (102.2 cm.), 13 1/2 in. (34.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 in. (5.1 cm.) deep. Scale length is 24 1/2 in. (622 mm.).

Very clean original condition; all original. Finish very nice with only minor wear and dings, mostly along back edge. Face and neck have very little wear; gold hardware has nice muted sheen.

This guitar comes equipped with a gold tune-o-matic bridge which is adapted to the original Gretsch base; this can be interchanged in a moment with the original Gretsch roller saddle which is also included.

Plays and sounds great, with very nice original pebbled blue/grey hardshell case also in excellent condition. Excellent Condition.
