Item #6017

Gretsch Country Club PX-6196 Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1958), made in Brooklyn, NY, serial # 27494, Cadillac Green lacquer finish, laminated maple body and neck, ebony fingerboard, original two-tone grey hard shell case.

A very fine example of a 1950's Gretsch Country Club with the much-desired Cadillac Green finish and the classic 1958 features. This very early PAF Filter'tron pickups with unsculpted surround rings and the faitly short-lived 'trestle' bracing design where the top braces arch down under the bridge to meet the back.
This happy combination results in a spectacular sounding and great-playing guitar, one of the coolest 'Clubs we have seen from any period. The guitar also features original Grover Imperial tuners, early "G-arrow" knobs and the first version of the then-new "Space Control" bridge with the higher conical end caps. All edges are multibound, all metal hardware is gold plated and the ebony fingerboard has the half-moon "Neo-Classic" inlays. This is simply a super classy and unique Gretsch, and a great guitar for Rockabilly, early Rock&Roll stylings, Vinatge Country or even Jazz (Ask Al Caiola!).

Overall length is 42 in. (106.7 cm.), 17 1/16 in. (43.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 3/4 in. (7 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). Very fine overall-some checking to the top, and light chipping to the finish overall but no major wear or damage. The headstock "wings" show some slight typical seperation but are solid. Great neck angle, all original except a correct style but slightly later tailpiece. An exceptionally nice playing and sounding Gretsch, from one of the company's greatest years. Excellent - Condition.
