Item #3049
Gretsch 6117 Double Anniversary Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1959), made in Brooklyn, NY, sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple body,, hard shell case.
Simply as nice as a Gretsch Anniversary model can get, this incredibly clean 100% original '59 6117 features two "PAF" filtertron pickups.
When we first opened the case, the initial reaction was "Wow, these re-issues are getting pretty close" but as the "Eau Du Gretsch" scent filled the room, we realized this was in fact an impeccably perfect 1959 Brooklyn Gretsch. With the same basic body, neck, and sound as the highly sought-after Chet Atkins model 6120, these 6117's are truly under-appreciated guitars. This early example also has the "tone bar" construction with the top bracing meeting the back, an especially desirable feature seen only on Gretsches from this period.
This is one of the best sounding and playing Gretsch guitars we have ever had, and easily the best-preserved 1950's Gretsch we have yet seen!
Overall length is 41 3/4 in. (106 cm.), 15 3/4 in. (40 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 5/8 in. (6.7 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 1/2 in. (622 mm.).
We almost never describe vintage guitars as 'near mint', but this Gretch is about as clean as can befinish and plating virtually perfect with no playing wear whatsoever. Only the tiniest fretwear shows it was ever played at all. Virtually a time capsule guitar. Near Mint Condition.
