Item #5168
Gibson UB-1 Model Banjo Ukulele, c. 1928, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
One of our perennial favorites! Although the dimunitive UB-1 (retailing originally at $10.00!) was the least expensive instrument Gibson ever offered, they are still very well-made and have a specific tone all to themselvesrather like the sound is already coming off of a 78 RPM discperfect for bring closet flappers out of the woodwork! Fun, extremely playable and awful durn cute.
Overall length is 19 3/4 in. (50.2 cm.), 6 1/4 in. (15.9 cm.) diameter head, and 3 in. (7.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 12 1/2 in. (318 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.). This is a fine player with some restoration. Several repaired lamination cracks in the rim (solidly and fairly cleanly closed up but still visible) and tuners are older but not original. Finish is relatively clean, plating on hoop still shiny with some loss/corrosion to hooks and quite a bit on the tailpiece. Good old skin head, new bridge, a very good sounding UB-1 at a lower price than a pristene example. Very Good Condition.
