Item #5122

Gibson TG-50 Conversion Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Tenor Guitar, c. 1949, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, maple back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown soft shell case.

A very cool and unusual guitar; this is an early post-WWII Gibson TG-50 with a carved spruce top fitted out with the correct period narrow P-90 pickup and electronics. By the look of the hardware, this was added when the guitar was new-possibly at the factory but more likely by a Gibson dealer-the pickguard cut is not perfectly clean. All parts are period correct including the wiring and tall, numbered knobs; the pickup is mounted a bit farther back than on the typical ETG-150 resulting in a brighter sound, also enhanced by the spruce top. One of the best-sounding full-body electric tenors we have had, with a nice full acoustic sound as well. Perhaps not all original, but a really unique and exceptionally good electric tenor!

Overall length is 39 1/4 in. (99.7 cm.), 16 1/8 in. (41 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/8 in. (8.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 23 in. (584 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/16 in. (30 mm.). Very clean overall; all original (or period) hardware; an excellent player with a unique sound. Excellent + Condition.
