Item #4377

Gibson Style TB Model Tenor Banjo (1918), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, shaded cherry finish, laminated maple neck and rim, original black hard shell case.

A fabulous example of the very first style of Gibson banjo, the model TB from 1918. This is an unusual design with a hollow chambered rim and minimal tone ring, and this basic instrument would subsequently be continually modified by Gibson until the inception of the familiar resonated Mastertone line in 1925.

Overall length is 30 1/2 in. (77.5 cm.), 12 in. (30.5 cm.) diameter head, and 2 3/4 in. (7 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 21 in. (533 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.).

Fully original and almost incredibly well-preserved. One repaired lamination crack in rim bottom near neck joint; otherwise, no repairs or alterations at all. Excellent + Condition.
