Gibson Style A Model Carved Top Mandolin (1919), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 52387, brown stain finish, birch back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, original black hard shell case.
Overall length is 25 3/4 in. (65.4 cm.), 10 1/4 in. (26 cm.) width, and 1 13/16 in. (4.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.). This old Gibson exhibits light-moderate finish wear overall, but no major damage or repair. All original and complete except for a newer bone nut and the elevated celluloid pickguard is long gone. The original frets have been taken down a bit but the instrument still plays very well, with the slightly brighter, punchier tone typical of late-'teens A-Style models. A good player's example and excellent old time string-band or recording mandolin, complete with the original HSC. Excellent - Condition.
