Item #2547

Gibson Style A-1 Model Carved Top Mandolin (1917), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, natural top, cherry stained back and sides finish, birch body, spruce top, mahogany neck, black tolex original hard shell case.

A nice-looking and sounding A-1 from the height of the Mandolin Orchestra era. All original, except finish looks to have been polished out at some point. Amber top with double inlaid soundhole rings, one-piece solid bridge, and particularly attractive tortoise celluloid pickguard and engraved tailpiece.

Typically fine sound; plays very well.

Overall length is 26 1/2 in. (67.3 cm.), 10 1/16 in. (25.6 cm.) wide, and 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/16 in. (30 mm.).

Very little wear, only really noticeable on spine of neck. Well-preserved; back has been reattached at tailpiece area and had one repaired crack there. This is extremely common with these instruments.

Includes a well-worn but fully functional original hardshell case. Excellent Condition.
