Gibson LG-3 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1957), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # U-9015-5, natural lacquer finish, mahogany sides, back and neck, spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, original brown alligator chipboard case.

A good late 1950's example of Gibson's premier small body flat-top guitar, well preserved with some playtime but no major wear. The LG-3 is basically the same instrument as the LG-2 with a "finer selection" of woods and a natural top finish. This just-post-1955 guitar has the larger tortoise pattern pickguard introduced that year, along with typical features including a small rectangular rosewood bridge, triple bound natural spruce top and single bound back, and block script Gibson logo. This guitar has a nice slim round comfortable neck and is a lively guitar to play, excellent sounding and would make a very fine recording guitar.

Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/2 in. (11.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). A very nice example, some scratches and scuffs but not a lot of wear for an instrument of this vintage and only some minor repairs. There are some repaired cracks, including one in the typical top-edge-of the pickguard spot, another on the edge of the pickguard from the soundhole ring by the fingerboard and a couple of small sealed side crack on the bass lower bout. The top center seam has been resealed as well, and the bridge reglued at some point. All this makes the guitar sound a lot worse than it looks! There is only light finish wear overall, mostly some dings to the top. Appears original except for reproduction enclosed strip Kluson tuners with plastic buttons. Overall a fine-sounding 1950's Gibson in ready-to-gig condition. Excellent - Condition.
