Item #7261

Gibson LG-1 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1955), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # W8731-19 (FON), sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany back, sides and neck; spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, black semi- hard shell case.

Overall length is 39 1/2 in. (100.3 cm.), 14 7/16 in. (36.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/2 in. (11.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This is a nice, clean, original guitar. The finish has checking overall and some dings and dents, but only a few isolated deep scrapes and scratches. The treble side in the lower bout area has numerous surface scratches from banging around in the case for years. The only crack repair is along the treble side of the fingerboard. The finish on the sides of the neck and frets in the low positions show some light wear; otherwise, this one does not appear to have been played a lot.

There is an old Gibson plastic strap button installed on the heel, and the tuners are the correct old Klusons, but at some point a set of Japanese strip tuners appears to have been mounted instead. Overall a good playing and sounding example of Gibson's most basic mid-'50s flat-top guitar, housed in an older European classical case with a note motif on the lid. Overall Excellent Condition.
