Item #6704

Gibson LG-0 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1959, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, natural mahogany finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, original black chipboard case.

This is a worn-in but still original example of Gibson's least expensive flat top. This one has no visible factory order number but features dating to the 1959 period. The LG-0 has plain all mahogany construction with tortoise celluloid bound solid mahogany top with ladder bracing and a rectangular rosewood bridge. The black plastic pickguard screwed to top. Very well used and about as simple as a Gibson gets, but still a great little guitar.

Overall length is 39 1/2 in. (100.3 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 7/16 in. (11.3 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). This old LG-0 has certainly led an interesting life-along with a lot of play and wear there are a number of homilies etched into the back! Overall the guitar is nicely original but has been very heavily played; there are chips, dings and scrapes over much of the guitar and heavy wear to several of the unbound body edges. There are several repaired grain cracks in the mehogany top and back, the saddle has been lowered but the bridge itself has not. The back has its own story to tell. Alongside the etched nanes "Char + John 76" and "SANDY-where is a bird to land?" there are several philosophical slogans: "Wise men talk because they have something to say-fools because they have to say something" -Plato, "If I read as meny books as that man I'd be as big a fool as he" -Hobbes and "Everybody is ignorant, only on a different subject" -Will Rogers. "I can't see the forest for the trees" also makes an appearance alomg the lower edge of the back. This guitar obviously lived in an intellectual dorm room or basement at some point! Aside from it's history, this is a very good sounding guitar wirth a sweet tone and a very comfortable action, not clean by any means but a delightful survior of somebody's lost youth! Very Good + Condition.
