Gibson Les Paul '59 Standard Custom Shop Murphy Lab Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (2021), made in Nashville, TN, serial # 912700, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany body, flame maple top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown tolex hard shell case.
This is a lovely recent Gibson Custom Shop/Murphy Lab rendition of the classic 1959 Sunburst Les Paul made at the end of 2021. This most sought after Les Paul variant from the 1950's has been re-issued since the 1970s, but they keep chasing the "grail". This November '21 Custom Shop version has a splendid feel and while recently built gets much closer in feel to the nearly 70 year old original than most previous attempts. This one has a nice "Iced tea" faded 'burst look reminiscent of the famous Peter Green guitar. It includes Gibson's recently introduced "Vintage Tone Circuit" which consists of "historic spec wiring" including unpotted '59 Custombuckers, handmade paper-in-oil capacitors and vintage taper audio pots.
The guitar is "Ultra light Aged" and reliced per its Murphy Lab COA, which is mostly confined to checking; the guitar itself appears very lightly used. At 8.77 Lbs. it is nicely in line with many '50s originals. It comes complete in the original deluxe re-issue brown case with a passel of case candy and the Murphy Lab COA included.
Overall length is 39 in. (99.1 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 in. (5.1 cm.) in depth at side. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.)., 8.77 lbs.
This guitar appears lightly used over the last few years, although in these cases discerning actual wear from the artificially induced is sometimes difficult. The "Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aging" consists of fine checking overall and just a bit of simulated finish wear. The guitar really looks like it's been mostly sitting in the case for 65+ years, exposed to the weather now and then. The frets show virtually no wear and the guitar performs exactly as it should, a very fine Les Paul by any standard complete in the original case with the Custom Shop paperwork and Murphy Lab COA in the pocket. Overall Excellent + Condition.
