Item #7091

Gibson L-50 Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar (1938), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, maple back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, period brown chipboard case.

Overall length is 40 1/2 in. (102.9 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/8 in. (8.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).

A nice player's example of a pre-war carved-top Gibson 16" archtop. The top appears to have been refinished in the correct style lacquer, with a very good color and a nice look overall. The back has had the finish polished down, and there is an old long crack repair on the lower half that runs across the length of the back on the treble side. There is one small patched top crack about 1" long off the treble side f-hole. The tailpiece and bridge are original, the tuners are "relic'd" modern repro Waverlys with plastic buttons. This guitar has an excellent neck angle and plays and sounds excellent, with plenty of volume and cut. Excellent - Condition.
