Item #4224

Gibson L-4C Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar (1951), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst lacquer finish, maple back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.

This early 1950's L-4C has a very dark sunburst top and a lovely patina overall. It has been equipped with a floating pickup and wooden pickguard by master arch-top luthier Bob Benedetto, and has a very good sound both acoustically and electrically. The L-4C of this era is the same size and carries the same ornamentation as an ES-175 but is a solid wood carved-top guitar with a finer acoustic tone than its laminated electric cousin. This model is something of a sleeper in the vintage market and is a very fine player's guitar at a fairly moderate price.

Overall length is 40 3/4 in. (103.5 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/8 in. (8.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). All original except for the replaced pickguard; tailpiece slightly modified at the base to accept an endpin jack. Overall well-played with numerous small finish dings and general wear but no major damage or repair. Very Good + Condition.
