Item #6268

Gibson L-4 Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar (1946), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, maple back and sides, spruce top; laminated maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown hard shell case.

Overall length is 41 1/2 in. (105.4 cm.), 16 1/4 in. (41.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/2 in. (8.9 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 13/16 in. (46 mm.). This guitar has some general wear overall but remains an excellent playing and sounding example of a 1940's Gibson archtop. The back seam has been resealed but there are no other major repairs. There are small scuffs and scratches to the finish but no major wear spots. The frets have had a recent G & P and the nut is newer. The instrument otherwise appears original except the pickguard is a later repro (and is already showing the first signs of celluloid deterioration) and the tuner buttons are also replacements. This is a very fine sounding guitar with plenty of volume but a sweeter tone than many similar period archtops. A very attractive and somewhat unusual instrument. Excellent - Condition.
