Item #5025
Gibson L-37 Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar (1938), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, maple back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black chipboard case.
Overall length is 39 11/16 in. (100.8 cm.), 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 5/8 in. (9.2 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).
This is a good playing small-body carved-top guitar; not as clean as some, but a cool pre-WWII piece. The overall look is somewhat worn-in, but the instrument plays very well. There is a large area of damaged finish to the top from the long-ago disintegration of the celluloid pickguard, with an old repaired crack through it. There is a short sealed seperation to the top seam under the tailpiece, and several repaired back cracks. There is an added strap button to the heel, the bridge and tuners are newer, and the tailpiece is original. A nice player with a good chunky sound. Overall Very Good + Condition.
